Abstract

La présente invention est relative à une méthode pour conférer des propriétés fongicides et bactéricides à un article. On opère par enduction ou imprégnation avec une solution d'un sel d'ammonium quaternaire insoluble ou à peine soluble dans l'eau, représenté par la formule I ci-après : (CF DESSIN DANS BOPI) dans laquelle X**(-) est un groupe formé par élimination d'un ion hydrogène à partir d'au moins un groupe carboxyle d'acide alginique ou de carboxyméthylcellulose ayant un degré de substitution par le groupe carboxyméthyle de 1,5 à 3,0 par unité de glucose anhydre ; et R**1 à R**4 sont chacun un groupe hydrocarboné aliphatique saturé ou insaturé à chaîne linéaire ou ramifiée en C1 à 20, trois des R**1 à R**4 sont chacun le groupe hydrocarboné et le groupe restant est un groupe aralcoyle, un groupe trialcoylammoniumalcoyle ou un groupe anyloxyalcoyle, deux des R**1 à R**4 sont chacun le groupe hydrocarboné et les deux groupes restants sont un groupe aralcoyle et un groupe dialcoylphénoxy- ou alcoylphénoxy-alcoylèneoxy-alcoyle.
