Abstract

The present invention relates to a system for the longitudinal handling of containers carrying sections or parts of great length, by means of a lifting-truck with front forks. It consists of a system 1 which may be fitted on all trucks with front forks, without any modification. It enables the containers to be grasped parallel to the direction of travel, by means of two removable forks 2 with locking 3 on one side at the upper portion. The load which is offset externally is balanced by a removable counterweight 4 so as to bring the global centre of gravity of the load back to the centre of the forks of the lifting truck. The containers 5, 6, especially designed for this apparatus 1, may be grasped equally well on the left-hand or right-hand side of the lifting truck by simply reversing the grasping of the apparatus. When empty, the forks 2 are folded back under the apparatus, the latter exceeding the size of the truck only by a maximum of 250 millimetres. The apparatus can be manoeuvred in a manual manner, or controlled and steered from the cabin of the lifting truck.
