Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a gripper for carrying out work on dental prostheses.
The subject of the invention relates to the technical sector and dental instruments.
I1 is known that dental prostheses such as crowns, teeth on metal pivot (Richmond), or crowns-vestibular inlay (CIV), ..., are, from a blank, prepared and carefully adjusted to be adapted to the teeth. The following operations are commonly and mainly carried out: scraping, that is to say removal of material from the prosthesis by grinding using a hand lathe or grinding wheel; polishing using a hand lathe with a grinding wheel or a small bench machine, in order to obtain a smooth surface on the prosthesis; final polishing to make the prosthesis shine either with a hand lathe fitted with a polishing wheel, or on a fixed polishing lathe. prostheses by hand, or sometimes using sketchy and inconvenient means. It is frequent that the manipulator must let go or suffer a burn as a result of the heating of the prosthesis which is generally made of steel or gold, that is to say of metals or alloys which conduct heat, and which is subject to the effect of the scraping or polishing wheel. To avoid this, it is often necessary to dip the prosthesis in water to cool it. All this breaks the continuity of operations and wastes time, which is very detrimental in the activities of the specialists concerned.
The pliers according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks in a simple manner by offering interesting conveniences.
This gripper is mainly characterized in that it comprises two branches articulated together at a suitable point of their length, each branch extending on the same side of the longitudinal axis of the clamp; an elastic system, preferably spring or equivalent, being mounted between the branches, on one side of the articulation axis, acting in expansion so as to spread the branches and to bring the active ends of the branches into contact located on the other side of the articulation axis, said active ends each having a narrow contact spout and of sufficient length so that the spouts can in particular allow work on a wide angular sector and be engaged in all cavities prostheses which are held and tightened without deforming them, by the elastic effect of the spring.
These characteristics and others will emerge from the description which follows.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view showing in continuous lines a grinding tool and the pliers according to the invention, and in broken lines a prosthesis held by the pliers and the user's hand positioned on the pliers.
In order to make the object of the invention more concrete, it is now described in a nonlimiting embodiment illustrated in the figures of the drawing.
The clamp according to the invention essentially comprises two branches (1, 2) identical and symmetrically mounted with respect to the longitudinal axis. These two branches are articulated together by an axis (3) forming a rivet (FIG. 3) which passes through bosses (la, 2a) of the branches cooperating with complementary recesses (lb, 2b). Each branch extends on the same side of the longitudinal axis of the clamp, and the articulation axis is located at a distance (x) from the active ends approximately 2.5 to 3 times shorter than the distance ( y) from the axis to the opposite ends (Figure 1).
The parts (lc, 2c) of the branches between the articulation axis and the active ends, are of reduced width (symmetrically or not) and said active ends form beaks (ld, 2d) facing each other, that is i.e. oriented transversely to the longitudinal axis.
At the rear of the spouts, the thinned parts form clearances (le, 2e) to allow, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 5, the engagement of the spouts in hollow prostheses (P) which are then held at the level of their bottom or their wall by the pressure of the spouts, pressure obtained by an elastic member interposed between the parts (lof, 2f) of the branches which are opposite the active ends.
In the nonlimiting example illustrated, the elastic member is a coil spring (4) which is removably mounted on pins, lugs (5) or similar projections, attached or in one piece with the branches. The ends of the spring can also be engaged in blind holes made on the branches.
Note also that the parts (lof, 2f) spaced apart are curved to allow pleasant and suitable contact. These curved parts are of such length that they are entirely or almost entirely contained in the user's hand, as shown in Figure 5, so that the latter can in a natural gesture of grasping, apply the thumb and index finger as close as possible to the active ends (ie between the joint and the beaks) in order to control the pressure which must be sufficient but not excessive and to obtain good precision in the movements for working on the prosthesis.
The curve and the reduced length of the branches thus avoid unintended maneuvers by torque effect and also allow the pliers to be conveniently engaged in the suction compartment of the polishing machines for example.
Richmond (figure 4).It can also be seen that the bearing face at the end of each beak, present in the direction of the longitudinal axis, a concave shape (lg, 2g) shallow but sufficient to correctly hold the stems (T) of the prostheses to metal pivot or
Richmond (Figure 4).
On the other hand, the spouts (ld, 2d) are preferably symmetrical, but it is not excluded that they are asymmetrical for particular applications.
As can be clearly seen in Figures 2 and 5 in particular, it is easy to work on prostheses of the crown type, vestibular crown-inlay, or even of the pivot type (Richmond) well held by the operator using the pliers. In particular, it is noted that one can work on a circular sector of at least 300 on either side of the spouts, without having to move the prosthesis relative to the forceps. When you want to operate on the complementary sector part, it is easy to rotate the prosthesis by hand, even without cooling it because the gesture is very fast and there is no need to act with finger pressure because that the prosthesis is still held by the clamp. We thus make the circumference and the "triturante" face (occlusal face) by moving the ends of the beaks.
The pliers according to the invention can be used to scrape or grind the prostheses with a hand lathe (M) provided with a suitable grinding wheel, in order to adjust the prosthesis on the stump. It is still used to polish, that is to say to obtain a smooth surface state, without any roughness, with a polishing wheel mounted in a hand lathe, or else to make it shine either with the polishing lathe, or hand turn.
Of course, it is possible to make the clamp in any suitable material: stainless steel, light alloy, plastic, and to surface treatment of the active ends and the spouts to increase their mechanical characteristics (hardness in particular).
The advantages are clear from the description, it is emphasized in particular - The precise, quick and easy handling of the prostheses by the forceps itself held securely and precisely in the hand, without any risk of burns due to the rapid heating of the metal used for prostheses, so without wasting time.
- L'adaptation de la pince à toutes les dimensions de couronnes et de Richmond.- Adaptation of the clamp to all dimensions of crowns and Richmond.
- Les possibilités de règlage de la pression de préhension des pinces, par interchangeabilité du ressort d'écartement.- The possibilities of adjusting the gripping pressure of the clamps, by interchangeability of the spacer spring.
The compactness of the pliers allowing them to be engaged in the suction boxes of the polishing machines, and to be held in the hand in a rational and safe manner, by controlling the pressure exerted by the spring on the gripping spouts, by applying the thumb and forefinger as close as possible to the beaks1 and in any case between the beaks and the hinge pin.
The rational shape of the active ends allowing them to easily engage in the smallest hollow prostheses while leaving a maximum of surface to work on the grinding faces and on the periphery.
The invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application any more than to those of the embodiments of its various parts which have been more particularly indicated; on the contrary, it embraces all its variants.
