Abstract

The limbs of the tweezers intersect half-way along their length and open to approx. 3mm wide. A closing pressure of 200 to 300 grams is possible. Their finger grip zone (1,4) is rounded to give a roughly circular shape for comfort in use. The jaws can have ribbed surfaces (6), and the total length of the instrument can be between 15 and 16cm. The design enables the live tick to be detached complete with sucker, thus avoiding the risk of a festering wound, caused by leaving part of the parasite in the flesh.

Description

 The present invention relates to pliers for removing ticks.

 When using normal forceps with straight arms to remove ticks from the skin of animals, the closing pressure is exerted by hand. There is usually enough closing pressure to crush and kill the tick. If you then remove the tick by pulling straight, the suction cups do not parent the skin, detach from the body of the tick and can cause inflammation in the skin of the animal. If you try to remove the tick by turning the forceps, the suction cups also come off because they did not separate from the skin before the tick died.

 The object of the invention is therefore to create a clamp of the type mentioned at the beginning which is better suited for detaching ticks in the sense that it allows safely to detach the suction cups from the skin and to remove the living tick. To achieve this object, the invention provides that the clip has the shape, known per se, of a cross clip; and that the crossed pliers are designed for an opening of 3 mm and a closing pressure of 200 to 300 grams and that its gripping area has a region whose section is rounded to take approximately a circular shape.

 The opening of about 3 mm is sufficient so that on the one hand the tick is firmly gripped but on the other hand is not crushed. According to experience, a closing pressure of 200 to 300 grams does not crush a tick. Thanks to the values according to the invention of the opening and the closing pressure, we therefore manage to use a crossed pliers in a convenient manner to remove the ticks. The round area of the grip is necessary because after gripping the tick, you must slowly rotate the clamp so that the living tick detaches its suction cups from the animal's skin. This rotation of the clamp is practically not possible. - ble, in the regular way, without jerking and slow which is necessary, only if the grip zone, 1d where it is grabbed, has a section not angular but rounded.

 It is particularly suitable and advantageous that the closing pressure is studied to be around 250 grams.

According to experience, this closing pressure allows at best a secure grip of the tick without crushing.

 It is particularly appropriate and advantageous also that the gripping zone carries at its upper end a piece of circular section. This part which we know on a compass, allows to perform the desired rotation in a particularly favorable way.

 It is also particularly suitable and advantageous for the surfaces of the jaws to have grooving. Grooved jaw surfaces, unlike smooth jaw surfaces, allow better grip of the tick, also during its rotation and extraction.

 It is. particular and advantageous still that the jaws have recesses which run in the longitudinal direction and whose surfaces are turned towards one another. These hollows are adapted to the shape of the tick and increase the contact surface between the tick and the bit.

 It is particularly suitable and advantageous moreover that the total length is 15 to 16 cm, preferably about 15.5 cm. This length allows a simplified and easier maneuver to extract the tick from the clamp.

 The clamp according to the drawing comprises at the top a part 1 whose section is substantially circular and which has externally knurling in the form of longitudinal grooves. This part 1 carries two arms 2 which intersect at 3. The arms 2 are joined by welding at the top to the part I and form, up to the crossing point 3, a grip zone 4. At the lower part of the arms 2 jaws 5 are provided, the surfaces 6 of which are hollow and include grooving.

 Of course various modifications can be made by those skilled in the art to the devices which have just been described only as a non-limiting example without departing from the scope of the invention.

Pliers for removing ticks, characterized in that it has the shape, known per se, of a crossed pliers; and in that the cross clamp is designed for an opening of 3 mm and a closing pressure of 200 to 300 grams and in that its gripping area (1, 4) has a region whose section is rounded to take approximately one circular shape.  2. Pliers according to claim 1, characterized in that the closing pressure is studied to be around 250 grams.  3. Pliers according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the gripping area carries at its # upper end a piece (1) of circular section.  4. Pliers according to one of claims 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the surfaces of the jaws (6) have a groove.  5. Pliers according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the jaws (5) have recesses which run in the longitudinal direction and whose surfaces are turned towards one another.  6. Pliers according to one of the preceding claims, charac terized in that its total length is 15 to 16 cm, preferably about 15.5 cm.
