Abstract

The transmission system is designed for an all-wheel drive vehicle. It comprises at least two propeller shafts (3,12), each independently driving a differential (6,9). One of the propeller shafts (3) is driven directly by the gearbox (2), whilst the other propeller shaft (12) is driven by the first one via an automatic torque limiting mechanism (16). The torque limiting mechanism (16) is pref. a friction device containing springs which can transmit at most the engine torque taking into account the rolling resistance of the differential (9).
