Abstract
Description
The present invention refers to expansion joints intended to be placed in concrete building elements in order to constitute expansion joints which prevent such constructions from cracking under the influence of heat. Although the invention relates more particularly to a joint intended for soil work, it could very well without departing from the invention use such a joint for the production of partitions or other non-horizontal surfaces.
There are many devices of the kind in question provided in plastic, metal, etc., but in all cases, their upper edge remains flush with the surface of the concrete element after it has hardened. The edge considered is therefore visible, which can in some cases affect the aesthetics of the constructions, and can pose sealing problems.
On the contrary, in accordance with the invention, the upper part of the joint is detachable so that after setting of the concrete it is possible to extract said upper part in order to constitute a free groove which can be filled with mastic or the like for example to remove any traces of the expansion joint and seal the joint.
In a first embodiment, the upper part of the joint is joined to its lower part by means of lines of lesser resistance allowing tearing of said upper part after drying of the concrete.
In a second embodiment, the upper part of the joint is assembled before its lower part by simple snap-fastening.
The appended drawing, given by way of example, will allow a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is capable of providing.
Fig. 1 is a partial perspective view of a joint established according to a first variant of the invention.
Fig. 2 illustrates the manner in which the joint in FIG. 1 is included in a concrete slab.
Fig. 3 shows how after tearing off the upper part of the seal, there exists above its remaining part a free groove.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 3 but on which a filling of the free groove is shown.
Fig. 5 is an exploded perspective view of the two elements of a joint established in accordance with a variant of the invention.
Fig. 6 illustre le joint à l'état monté. Fig. 6 illustrates the seal in the assembled state.
Fig. 7 and 8 are views similar to those of FIGS. 2 and 4 but which relate to the joint of FIG. 6.
Illustrated in Figure 1 an expansion joint according to the invention assigned the general reference 1. This joint is established in the form of a box 2 comprising two vertical partitions 3 and 4 and transverse partitions 5, 6, 7 intended to stiffen the assembly which improves the quality of the seal. It is observed that above the transverse partition 7, the two partitions 3 and 4 are each provided with a longitudinal groove 3a respectively 4a, the bottom of which is located in the immediate vicinity of the inner face of the vertical partitions 3 and 4 of such so that each of these has an area of least resistance. Above each of the grooves 3a and 4a, the partitions 3 and 4 diverge very slightly towards the top and lead to a transverse web 8.
Ces ailettes ont été référencées 3b, 3c, 3d respectivement 4b, 4c, 4d.Opposite this veil, the lower edge of the joint 1 is pointed to constitute a kind of cutting edge 9 whose role will be better explained below. Lateral fins oriented obliquely in the direction of the top leave from each of the partitions 3 and 4. These fins have been referenced 3b, 3c, 3d respectively 4b, 4c, 4d.
When a slab or other concrete element has been poured, the joint 1 is driven into the concrete along the desired line along which it is desired to make an expansion joint until the veil 8 is substantially flush with the upper surface 10a of the slab 10. After the concrete has dried, it is easy to see that we can grasp in one way or another the end of the upper part of the joint located at the
above the grooves 3a, 4a so as to separate the two parts of the joint by tearing of the zones of least resistance constituted by the grooves in question. The slab then appears as illustrated in FIG. 3, that is to say that above the remaining lower part of the joint is a free groove 11. As illustrated in FIG. 4, this groove can be filled with mastic or the like in order to constitute a stuffing 12 which on the one hand acts as an expansion joint and on the other hand makes it possible to conceal it.
Another embodiment of the invention is illustrated in FIG. 5 in which the seal is composed of two elements, namely a seal itself 13 and a profile 14. The seal 13 is preferably produced by extruding a material cellular plastic in such a way that it is produced in the form of a peripheral crust 13a and of a core 13b with a more flexible structure than that of the crust. Again, the seal has a lower cutting edge 15 and lateral fins 13c, 13d slightly divergent towards the top.
It is observed that at its upper end the seal 13 is provided with two longitudinal grooves referenced 13e, 13f.
The second element 14 is produced in the form of a hollow profile having the general shape of a U, the two wings 16, 17 of which have a spacing roughly equal to the thickness of the seal 13. The two wings 16, 17 are joined by a transverse veil 18 which may possibly extend beyond each of these wings. The internal face of each of them is provided with a cord 16a, 17a which engages respectively in the grooves 13e, 13f of the seal 13 when the latter is engaged between the wings 16 and 17 of the profile 14.
After this assembly, a composite joint of the kind illustrated in FIG. 6 is obtained.
As in the case of the joint illustrated in FIG. 1, the joint 13-14 is pressed into the slab 10 until its transverse web 18 is roughly flush with the upper face 10a of this slab. We can then extract the profile 14 which tears from the seal 13 since the latter is very well anchored in dry concrete. Again, we get a groove 11 which can be filled with putty 12.
It is easily understood that the second embodiment of the invention is of very particular interest since the joint 13 can be used alone for very specific applications such as tiling joint flush with the floor surface.
I1 should also be understood that the foregoing description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart by replacing the execution details described by all other equivalents.
