Abstract

The cable connector fitting is designed to be compatible with conventional cable connectors, for example the insulation-rupturing type. A threaded shaft (10) ends in a cylindrical metal head (12) which contains a tired out section (14) of hexagonal section. A hexagonal plug of an insulating material such as plastics is fitted in that section. A metal hexagonal-sided tube (18) is sunk into the plastic plug. The whole unit is turned on its thread by a hexagonal key (20), for example an allen key. The insulating plug has a lip which covers the head of the shaft. This prevents contact between the cable and the tightening tool. Alternatively, the metal hexagonal tube is replaced by a longer version which has an accurately machined nick incorporated into it. The nick is meant to deliberately weaken the tube so that it shers under a pre-determined turning stress and does not transit a greater torque to the cable to be connected.
