Abstract

The cap for the fuel tank of a vehicle contains a labyrinthine ventilation passage (2) which places the interior of the tank in communication with the outside air, ensuring a constant pressure in the tank and avoiding an explosion. The two ends (3,4) of the ventilation passage (2) are interconnected by a channel (6) which houses a piston (7). In the event of an accident, the piston is forced against a stop (8) positioned at the outer end (4) of the ventilation passage by fuel trying to escape through the ventilation passage, blocking the passage and preventing spillage of fuel.
