Abstract

The removable safety-cage for ladders made up of several sections comprises two arms (1) pivoting about axes (2) in each of the side beams (3) making up the safety-cage (4). The arms are interconnected by transverse rods (5) carrying rollers which slide along the uprights (8) of the ladder and guide the safety-cage. The rollers (6) are biassed against the uprights of the ladder by springs (7) positioned between the arms and the beams. The beams are provided with handles (10) to assist movement of the safety cage.

Description

The present invention relates to a new means to protect against accidental falls of people in the use of ladders.

 In known devices, protection is achieved either by a belt with rope and hook fixed to the ladder or by a platform permanently fixed to the end of the ladder. Such devices are difficult to use and do not ensure the protection of users during the ascent and descent of the ladder. The seat belt cannot prevent falls but simply prevent the user from falling freely. The platform permanently fixed to the ladder is heavy and difficult to handle.

 The sliding and removable protector according to the invention eliminates these drawbacks and provides total protection both when climbing and descending and during work on the ladder. It allows you to go up and down the steps without having to alternate alternately one or the other hand to move on the scale. It also allows the free use of the two Zains during the work phase and at any height of intervention.

 The protector according to the invention provides permanent protection and does not cause stress. It also allows easy removal and handling of the necessary accessories.

 The protector as shown comprises two holding frames 1 constituted by two lateral parts and two crosspieces 5 carrying the rolling and guide rollers 6. The two rigid frames are fixed pivotally at an angle around an axis 2 with respect to them lateral parts 3 of a railing or crinoline 4 and integral with the latter.

 The pressure of the track rollers and guide 6 on the uprights of the ladder is ensured by springs 7, one end of which is fixed to the retaining frame 1 and the other end to the lateral uprights of the railing 3 so that the protector slides on the uprights of the ladder caught between the crosspieces of the two chassis and remains maintained in a stable position as soon as the push on the protector stops. Handles 10 fixed to the protector facilitate the movement of the latter by the operator. The protector carries a safety crotch strap 9 fixed to the crinoline and to a bar of the ladder during the working phase and to the crosspiece of the protector during the ascent and descent preventing any slipping through the crinoline.

 According to a variant, one of the crosspieces 5 of the two frames on the side opposite the crinoline can be removable to facilitate the positioning of the protector on the ladder.

 The device, object of the invention, can be used for all medium and large height scales with one or more elements and also for fixed vertical scales. it provides permanent protection for the operator, facilitates handling of objects and leaves the operator free to use with both hands during the work phase, at any working height.

 A particularly interesting application is its use in premises at great height and where the setting up of a scaffolding is not possible. Its implementation is particularly easy and rapid.

Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments shown, neither in form nor in the use of various materials such as aluminum, plastic or
iron.

Claims (7)

 1. Sliding and removable protector for medium and large height ladders with one or more elements, comprising two holding frames (1) pivoting at a certain angle around an axis (2) relative to the lateral uprights (3) of a railing or crinoline (4) thus joining said chassis.  2. Protector according to claim 1 characterized in that it is mounted to slide on the uprights of the ladder by means of the rolling and guide rollers (6).  3. Protector according to claims 1 and 2 characterized in that the uprights of the ladder (8) are taken between the rolling and guide rollers (6) carried by the two crosspieces (5).  4. Protector according to claims 2 and 3 characterized in that the pressure on the uprights of one ladder (8) is permanently ensured by springs (7), one end of which is fixed to the holding frame (1) and the other end on the side rails of the railing.  5. Protector according to claims 1 to 4 characterized in that the lateral uprights (3) of the protector are provided with handles (10) ensuring by pushing or pulling the movement of the railing.  6. Protector according to claim 1 characterized in that the grde-body is provided with a crotch strap (9) which hangs on the bars of the ladder during the working phase.  7. Protector according to claim 3 characterized in that one of the crosspieces of the two chassis on the side opposite the railing can be removable for placement on the ladder.
