Abstract
Description
The subject of the invention is a stack of individual blocks in which the latter are arranged so that the assembly can be grasped and lifted by a forklift without the need to use a handling pallet.
The state of the art in this field is illustrated by the published French patent application NO 78-37063 (2,445,277).
We know that by stacking in successive layers resistant objects such as bricks, concrete agglomerates, concrete blocks, packages, etc ..., which we will call here more simply blocks, we can manage in the second layer two symmetrical empty passages capable of receiving the two teeth of the fork of a handling truck. So that the entire stack can be lifted by the fork engaged in these passages, provision is made to encircle all of the superimposed layers using two spaced strapping strips arranged parallel in planes which are perpendicular to the longitudinal direction passages for receiving the fork. This method of building up a stack of blocks is well suited when the width of the blocks is greater than that of the teeth of the fork. It is no longer usable when the teeth are wider than the blocks since the removal of two of them in the second layer does not give a sufficiently large space.
In the patent mentioned above, a solution is provided to overcome this difficulty.
We have all the articles with their largest longitudinal dimension placed parallel to the passages and we delete in the second layer several neighboring articles to provide an elongated passage wide enough for each of the teeth of the fork; two thin and rigid elements are placed on this second layer, transverse to the passages of the teeth, and the articles of the third layer can be placed on these elements. The two lower layers are raised with the upper layers, by the fork introduced into the passages under the third layer, there are two strips which encircle the assembly in two planes spaces perpendicular to the passages.
These strips are metallic and they have a relatively large length since they surround the entire stack. It has become apparent in use that, because of their length and the weight of the first and second layers which they lift, these strips tend to lengthen when the stack is moved by a forklift. As a result, the base of the stack drops level and tosses, which affects the precision of the maneuvers.
The main object of the present invention is to achieve a stack of blocks that can be moved without a pallet, having two passages for the fork of a carriage, not requiring the placing in the stack of rigid transverse elements, comprising a reduced length of metal strip, in which the two lower layers maintain a precise position during the lifting of the assembly by the fork of a carriage.
This object is achieved, according to the invention, from blocks having a length greater than the width of each tooth of a fork, by virtue of a stack composed in the following manner. In the first layer, the blocks are placed with their length placed transversely to the elongated passages which it is intended to provide in the second layer; in this second layer, the blocks are arranged with their length placed parallel to the passages and these passages are reserved by suitably spacing the blocks symmetrically in correspondence with the teeth of a fork of a carriage; in the third layer, the blocks are arranged with their length placed transversely to the passages, as in the first layer. These three layers are circled together using spaced strips located in planes parallel to the direction of the passages. These strips are each arranged respectively in the end portions of each of the blocks of the first and third layers. There is thus obtained a stack base which is rigid and on which several upper layers can be laid, until the total overall dimensions or the total admissible weight are obtained.
Preferably, the relative directions of the lonritudinal dimensions of the blocks are also alternated in these upper layers between the successive layers. The upper final layer is circled in a horizontal plane using a plastic strip.
To make the invention understood and to appreciate the advantages, a description will now be given of several exemplary embodiments.
Reference is made to the appended drawing in which
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a stack of blocks such as concrete blocks, produced in accordance with the invention,
- Figure 2 is a perspective view of a stack of blocks such as relatively thin slab elements, produced in accordance with the invention.
The invention is applicable with all blocks having sufficient strength and a longitudinal dimension greater than the width of each tooth of a forklift fork.
A stack produced in accordance with the invention comprises a first layer of blocks designated by the general reference 1 in which the blocks 10 are juxtaposed with their longitudinal dimension greater than the width of a tooth of a fork set in direction transverse to the direction passages for the fork that we plan to create in the second layer of blocks. In the example described here, the blocks 10 are concrete blocks having a length of 0.50 m, a width of 0.25 m and a height of 0.20 m. There are therefore in the front face of the layer 1 two blocks 10 placed end-to-end in the direction of their length; in the depth of the stack as shown by the lateral face visible in FIG. 1, there are four successive pairs of blocks 10.
In the next layer, the second layer 2, the blocks 10 are placed by putting their longitudinal dimension in the direction of the passages 11. These are created by symmetrically spacing on either side of the general plane of symmetry the blocks 10. In the front, we see the end faces of three blocks 10 which limit between them two elongated passages II to which we can give the width necessary for the introduction of a forklift fork. In the depth direction, as seen on the side face of FIG. 1, there are three pairs of blocks 10 placed end to end two by two. It is possible that the side blocks 10 of the second layer 2 project beyond the blocks 10 of the first layer 1.
Avec des blocs ayant d'autres dimensions, il pourrait n'y avoir aucun débordement de la couche 2.With blocks having other dimensions, there could be no overlap of layer 2.
In the next layer, the third layer 3, the blocks 10 are arranged with their longitudinal dimension placed transversely to the passages 11. In fact, in this third layer 3, the blocks 10 have the same arrangement as in the first layer 1.
When these three layers 1, 2, 3 have been formed as we have just explained, they are joined securely together by encircling them with metal strips 12 which are placed in planes parallel to each other and parallel to the direction longitudinal of the passages 11. In practice, a strip 12 is placed in each extreme longitudinal part of each of the blocks 40 of the first and third layers 1 and 3. In the example described here, as there are two blocks 10 placed end to end end in the front face, there are four metal strips 12 parallel to the passages 11.
We thus obtain a stack base which is rigid thanks to the bacon sheets 12 which are two in number for each length of the blocks 10 visible on the front and rear faces perpendicular to the passages 11. It will be noted that in the height direction of the stack, the strips 12 have a dimension limited to the height of the three layers 1, 2, 3. Consequently, due to their increased number and their reduced size in height, they are not affected by any elongation sensitive when a fork is engaged in the passages 11, this fork raises the third layer 3 (and the upper layers) to which the layers 1 and 2 are suspended by the metal strips 12.
Il est préférable de prévoir un feuillard métallique 13 pour ceinturer dans un plan horizontal parallèle au plan des passages 11 l'ensem- ble des blocs 10 de la dernière couche 6. the number of upper layers 4, 5, 6 which rest on the third layer 3 and the arrangement of the blocks 10 in these layers are not imposed by the invention. On the base of the stack formed by the three lower layers 1, 2, 3 joined by the strips 12, it is possible to arrange the blocks 10 as desired, until the admissible volume or weight is obtained. It is preferable to provide a metal strip 13 to surround in a horizontal plane parallel to the plane of the passages 11 all of the blocks 10 of the last layer 6.
FIG. 2 illustrates the case where the invention can be used with blocks 20 of relatively small thickness but of length greater than the width of the teeth of the fork of a forklift. In fact, in this example, the blocks 20 have a length of 0.50 m as in the previous example.
The base of the stack is composed of the first three layers 1, 2, 3, as already explained, the second layer 2 having two spaced passages 11.
The only difference is that, in the direction of their thickness, there are more blocks 20 placed side by side. To prevent blocks 20 from escaping from the upper layers 4, 5, they can be belted using a strip 14 of plastic material shown in phantom in a horizontal plane. Layer 1 can also be strapped if it is deemed useful in order to avoid its opening in the middle when the blocks 20 are thin.
