Abstract

Tubes or rods which will be rotated are joined together coaxially by two clamping jaws. Each jaw is located on the piston rod of a jack; and the piston rods are coaxial. Each jack has a pair of lugs located in a recess in two plates which are bolted on a frame. The recesses are not in the middle of the plates, so that when the plates are rotated through 180 deg. the distance between the coaxial jacks is altered. The result is that one clamp can be used for tubes with a wide range of dia. In the past, several clamps with difference sizes were needed to accommodate tubes or drill rods with different dias. The invention provides a clamp suitable for many sizes of tube or rod.
