Abstract

Process for applying a paint film to a surface comprises first applying the paint to a temporary carrier web to which the paint film becomes detachably adhered, drying the paint on the support web, and finally transferring the paint film from the temporary support to the surface to be coated by means of a suitable adhesive. Process can be used with any type of paint, esp. those contg. heavy fillers such as silica or sand, which tend to run on vertical surfaces due to gravity. Paint films can be applied for decorative or protective purposes to a wide variety of substrates and are esp. useful for application to vertical walls of elevators, which need not be taken out of service for the paint to dry as is normally the case.
