Micronised powder prepd. from marine mud, e.g. that from salt marshes, in prepd. by the following process. The mud is spread out as a thin layer on trays in a ventilated oven and heated at 40-45 deg.C to dry. It is then crushed and powdered. The resultant powder has the negative ionic charge of the mud, its organic and mineral base elements, trace elements, and its soluble proteins. In cosmetology, as a cream or mask, it acts against ageing of the skin and has an antiwrinkle effect. In balneotherapy, after addn. to water which may be hot, it aids functional reeducation and the maintenance of general plasmatic tonus. In pharmaceutical specialities as a poultice it may be used to treat muscular, articular, or rheumatic disorders, or as an ointment to treat skin disorders.
