Abstract

An electrical connector comprises a male tab (1) and a female clip (3). When the tab is inserted into the clip (3), an elastically deformable portion (5a, 9) of the clip engages the tab and the projection (9) enters an opening in the tab, thus locking the tab and clip (3) together. To release the tab flange 5a is engaged with a sloping abutment of a suitable insulating housing (shown in outline) and the projection (9) is elastically deformed downwards.

  The subject of the present invention is an improvement

  electrical connection devices having a flat rectangular male tongue which is inserted into

in a female clip.

  In devices of this type the tongue has a circular orifice which is force-fitted on a pin carried by the female clip, which allows the locking of the connection. This mode of insertion has a double disadvantage: on the one hand, the pressure force to exert on the parts

  Referring to these drawings, it can be seen that FIG. 6 partially shows the male part of the connection device which comprises a flat and rectangular tab 1,

  equipped with a central orifice 2. In a known manner and not

  felt, this tongue is fixed to the conductive part of a conductor by a crimped lug and to the insulator which encapsulates this

  conductor by crimping pliers on this insulator. This lan-

  Figures 2 to 5 inclusive show the female clip 3 which has the general shape of a rectangular parallelepiped

  hollow, so that the tongue 1 can be inserted therein.

  This clip 3 comprises as is known a pod 3a

  intended to be crimped on the driver and a clamp 3b des-

  designed to be crimped on the insulation.

  The bottom wall or sole of the parallelepiped comprises a cutout 4, U-shaped which defines a tongue

  central 5, two lateral flanges 6 and a front flange 7.

  The tongue 5 being held only by one side can deform

  elastically while the flanges 6 and 7 are fixed. The extré-

  The top wall or lid of the parallelepiped

  is in two symmetrical parts separated by a cutout 12.

  The side walls 13 connect the parts 11 to the flanges 6 of the bottom wall. Thus the parallelepiped is formed of a metal sheet in one piece, folded twice on itself, so as to include: a bottom wall or sole formed by the flanges 6 and 7, and the tongue 5 (lower wall connected to the terminal 3a and the clamp 3b); two side walls 13 and an upper wall formed of two symmetrical parts 11 which abut one against the other

  along line 12. The two parts 11 forming the upper wall

  are curved in their central part lla.

  The operation of the connection device thus described is as follows. The male tab 1 is introduced in

  the clip 3 through the orifice 14 (Figure 2) of the hollow parallelepiped.

  To unlock the tongue 1, it suffices to pull down on the tongue 5 either by means of the spout 5a, or by means of the small tongue 10, so as to

disengage the lug 9 from the orifice 2.

  This downward pull can be achieved by any suitable means, but it is preferably exerted by means of a special insulating cap shown in FIGS. 7 and 8. The cap shown in these figures is a parallelepipedic sleeve 15 of insulating material and quite flexible, rubber for example, which is threaded on the clip 3 as

  The upper wall of the sleeve 15 has a projection 16 which makes it possible to immobilize the sleeve 15 on the clip 3 in the vicinity of the lug 3a and the bottom wall has a stop 17 comprising an inclined plane 17a having a slope corresponding to or slightly greater than that spout 5a (5Q0 for example), this stop 17 extending over the entire

  width of the bottom wall of the sleeve 15.

  It can be seen that, if the sleeve 15 is slid towards the rear of the clip 3, the inclined plane 17a engages the spout 5a and forces the tongue 5 to lower, which releases the tongue 1 from the spur. 9. The sleeve 15 thus fulfills both the role of an insulating cap for the connection and the

  role of a disconnect command.

Claims (6)

  1. Electrical connection device comprising   a male tongue inserted into a female clip, which is   characterized in that the female clip has the general shape of a hollow parallelepiped whose bottom wall or sole comprises an elastic tongue provided with a lug intended to fit into a correspondingly shaped orifice of the male tongue.   2. Device according to claim 1 wherein the front end of the elastic tongue of the female clip.   is folded down by an angle of about 450.   3. Device according to claim 2 characterized in that it comprises a resilient cap covering the female clip, this cap being constituted by a sleeve slidable along said clip, said sleeve having at its bottom wall a stop whose rim in inclined plane engages the inclined front edge of the tongue of the clip to fold it elastically downwards which releases   the pin of the orifice of the male tongue.   4. Device according to one of claims 2 or 3   characterized by the fact that the elastic tab of the clip has a small tongue folded downwards in the direction   opposite of the front edge of the elastic tongue.   5. Device according to any one of the claims   tions, characterized by the fact that the upper wall   the clip consists of two symmetrical parts connected to the fixed edges of the bottom wall by the walls side of the clip.   6.- Device according to claim 5, characterized in that each of the symmetrical parts of the wall   upper has a convex portion downwards.
