Abstract

The converter changes reciprocal curvilinear input motion into rotation and effects a stepping-up of the input force. A curved track (1) for a similarly curved input thrust rod (2) is actuated by a pedal (3) and mounted on a pair of rollers (7,8). One roller (8) provides a terminal pin joint for a connecting rod (4) secured by an offset axle (6) to the output crank shaft (5). The thrust rod (2) and track (1) geometry can adapt to a horizontally reciprocating motor which optimises the stroke. The motor may be of a compressed air piston type, using the step-up effect to obtain a perpetual rebound effect.
