On sait que le miel brut, tel qu'il est extrait des cadres de la ruche, contient non seulement le miel proprement dit mais également de faibles quantités de divers constituants parmi lesquels on peut citer de jeunes larves ou embryons de reines, éventuellement de la gelée royale, des abeilles avec leur venin, du propolis ou colle d'abeilles, des restes de cire et du pollen de fleurs.
