Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a swimming fin with variable active surface comprising a part in the form of a bootie and one or more parts in the form of blades integral with the bootie to form a support surface on a batten, said blades being connected to the bootie by from hinges with limited clearance to come into an active position of maximum bearing surface during the driving stroke of the palm and into an inactive position folded with minimum surface during the negative stroke of the palm.
The main patent describes a palm of the kind mentioned facilitating learning to swim while adapting to the motor movements of the different strokes.
The present improvement aims to increase the efficiency of the palm and consists in the fact that said blades have orifices making the two faces of the blades communicate, the section of said orifices being chosen to oppose the passage of a significant amount of water during the motor race.
The invention starts from the observation that the presence of orifices practically does not decrease the active surface of the palm during the rapid motor stroke, when the section of the orifices generates turbulence and liquid plugs which oppose the flow at through the holes. The orifices, on the other hand, contribute to reducing the weight of the fins, which facilitates their handling.
The perforated surface is advantageously limited to approximately 15 or 20 X of the surface of the blade in order to maintain sufficient rigidity and efficiency.
Another improvement according to the invention consists in opening the end of the liner to allow the passage of water in the liner. The reduction in weight and material due to this removal of the bottom is accompanied by better adhesion of the liner to the foot of the user.
Other advantages and characteristics will emerge more clearly from the description which follows of an embodiment of the invention, given by way of nonlimiting example and represented in the appended drawing, in which
Figures 1 and 2, similar to Figures 1 and 2 of the main patent, illustrate the improvements according to the invention.
In the figures, the palm 10 can be recognized, the liner 14 of which is framed laterally by two folding blades 24, 26 connected by hinges 28, 30. According to the present invention, orifices 34 are formed in the blades 24, 26, being preferably distributed regularly. The section of the orifices is small enough to limit the passage of water during the driving stroke, the active surface of the blades 24, 26 remaining practically equivalent to that of solid blades.
In the example illustrated by the figures, each blade 24, 26 has nine orifices 34 distributed in staggered rows in two rows, each orifice having a diameter of approximately 14 mm. The orifices 34 can of course be arranged irregularly and have a different shape and section, their total surface area however remaining less than 20% of the surface of the blade. A perforated surface of between 15 and 20% is suitable.
According to another development of the invention, the bottom 36 of the boot 34 is open which, while facilitating the donning of the fins and the adhesion of the boot to the foot, allows a reduction in the weight of the palm.
It is clear that the above-mentioned improvements are applicable to the various variant embodiments described in the main patent.
