Abstract

The system has a beam supporting a hollow girder contg. a trolley driven along the girder by an endless chain. The rear end of the lance is suspended from a trolley inside a gear box contg. a drive shaft which rotates the rear end of the lance. A shaft extends into a housing located on the outside of the furnace wall. The housing is fitted with a motor using a chain to rotate the shaft, and also contains gears rotating a bearing through which the front end of the lance passes when it is driven axially into the furnace. When the lance is retracted, it travels telescopically over an inlet pipe via which a fluid is fed into the lance.
