Abstract

A system of planetary cooling tubes 22 for a rotary kiln 1 extend from the rear wall 16 of a separate rotary drum 13 of greater diameter than the kiln into which drum the discharge end 2 of the kiln extends with a known rotary seal 38, the drum having a diameter greater than the distance between its end walls 15 and 16 and each tube having a length greater than its diameter. The drum is supported by a ring 26 engaging rollers 30 and the outer ends of the tubes 22 pass through a supporting annular ring 24 with a bearing ring 27 engaging rollers 31. A motor 32 drives the drum through a pinion 33 and ring gear 34 and the kiln burner 36 extends through said drum.
