Abstract

The charging circuit is for batteries esp. those used to power electrically propelled vehicles. The circuit can ensure that recharging takes place only during low tariff periods and provides regulation of the charging rate in the event of charging current fluctuations and as charging progresses. The batteries are supplied via a full-wave rectifier bridge (6) from a transformer (10) which is controlled by normally clock based, electromechanical programming driving a motor (9) operated switch (11, 12) in the transformer primary, an inductance (6) providing protection against supply (1, 2) fluctuations. A voltage detector (7) across the battery reduces the charging rate by a further switch (14) as charging nears its end and operates a second switch (16) to discontinue charging. This is via a second control mechanism (8) which operates according to some second function.
