Abstract

17,386. Ashton, A. W. July 26. Resistances, inductive.-In a supply system employing impedance to limit the current, this may be provided by an iron-cored choking-coil having a tapering air gap and an armature normally held out by a spring, but drawn in with a certain current so as to increase the impedance and reduce the pressure in the circuit; otherwise a clock may cause an iron disk to reduce the air gap at definite times. Or a suitably designed choking coil may be used giving 70 to 85 degrees difference of phase between current and pressure, without movable parts; or an ordinary choking-coil may be shunted by a non-inductive resistance, which may be such as to vary with its temperature.
