Abstract

A triple monochromator is illuminated by the energy diffused by a sample to permit optical analysis of the sample. The Raman radiation is feeble and measurements are improved by being able to vary the focal point of the illuminating laser and by use of a double optical collector. The beam (1) from a laser (9) passes through an adjustable focussing system (10) to illuminate a sample (3). The Raman radiation is collected by an optical system (4) in which a focussing lens (11) is adjustable. A fixed lens (12) produces an image in a slit (5) whose width (6) is controlled by a motor (14). A logic regulator (L) provides the motor control and also controls the focussing lend assemblies to obtain the optimum image (a) in the optical slit (5).
