Abstract

The ionising radiation must be measured constantly in areas where there is a risk to personnel such as in the nuclear industry. This measurement is performed by a portable instrument in which a film of polypropylene is discharged by the ionising radiation. An electrically non conducting film of polypropylene is held on a frame of variable thickness which is mounted on thick supports. This assembly is mounted on a moving metallic carriage to form one electrode. The film is placed under a point carrying a high potential from a generator to charge the film by Corona effect. The charge potential is measured by a probe from an electrostatic voltmeter and is repeated for a negative charge. Graphs of normalised potential against radiation allow determination of unknown radiation levels.
