Abstract

A steel anode is partly surrounded by insulation and placed in the bore of the tube; and both ends of the anode outside the tube are connected to the positive pole of a d.c. supply. The negative pole of the d.c. supply is connected via at least one point near the centre of the tube so the latter forms the cathode; and an alkaline electrolyte contg. the metal to be deposited is circulated through the tube. The cathode connection is pref. made at a point located between 1/3 and 2/3 of the length of the tube. The tubes are pref. 4-40 mm dia. and 1-12 metres long; and the deposit has min. thickness (t min) at the middle of the tube, with max. thickness (t max) at both ends, where t max does not exceed 2.5 (t min).
