Abstract
La présente invention concerne un appareil et un procédé pour la solidification de métal en fusion en un article ayant une orientation cristallographique dirigée. L'appareil comprend une section d'amorçage qui est adaptée pour contenir un cristal-germe et recevoir du métal en fusion. Le métal en fusion coule sur le cristal-germe et l'entoure pour le chauffer et obtenir sa fusion partielle. Une section de sélection dans cet appareil a une section transversale plus étroite par comparaison à celle de la cavité d'amorçage de sorte qu'on obtient seulement une solidification épitaxiale du métal dans la cavité de l'article. Une couche protectrice résistante au métal en fusion est également appliquée à des parties du cristal-germe pour faciliter sa séparation du métal en fusion ayant solidifié et sa réutilisation.The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for solidifying molten metal into an article having a directed crystallographic orientation. The apparatus includes an initiating section which is adapted to contain a seed crystal and receive molten metal. The molten metal flows over the seed crystal and surrounds it to heat it and obtain its partial fusion. A selection section in this apparatus has a narrower cross section compared to that of the initiation cavity so that only epitaxial solidification of the metal in the article cavity is obtained. A protective layer resistant to molten metal is also applied to parts of the seed crystal to facilitate its separation from the molten metal which has solidified and its reuse.
