Abstract

Mould is used esp. for casting steel, and possesses an internal mould wall surrounded by a cooling box contg. an inductor employed to stir the molten metal; and a coolant, e.g. water, travels through the box. The box contains a sealing element employed to ensure that all the cooling water flows through the inductor. The pref. box includes an upper coolant chamber closed by a top plate on the mould assembly; and a sealing ring is located between the underside of the top plate and the top of the inductor, esp. on top of a ring yoke forming a closed magnetic circuit for the inductor. The inductor can pref. be adjusted vertically in the box to control the compression of the sealing ring. Due to the increased efficiency of cooling of the inductor, the electric current flowing through the latter can be increased.
