Abstract
The welding device for polyethylene or polypropylene coated Al foils, such as used for screening power cables, has a sonotrode energized by an emitter and amplifier, and a foil support block. The sonotrode consists of a number of half-wave elements in such configuration that the sonotrode forms a seat for oscillation parallel to the interface of the welded foil, at the level of the amplitude antimodes, thus enabling a metal/metal welding through the plastics coating. At the level of amplitude modes is provided a seat for radial oscillations, orthogonal to the welding plane, enabling the welding of the thermoplastics coating.
