Abstract
The ship's bows have two main channels, one each side of the centre line, and extending from the keel at the forward end, to above the water line at the after end. Smaller channels are formed in the main channels, and run in diverging arcs, widening at the upper end. The angle between arcs varies with hull design. Pressure, caused by forward movement of the ships bows, is relieved by the channels, which divert pressure to the surface, from the point of penetration. This reduces the transition zone.
