Abstract

A monohull (1) has a tunnel (2) which runs in a generally forward to aft orientation. More than one tunnel (2) can be incorporated into the monohull (1). The one or more tunnels (2) define a dry region which is above the water and separates wetted areas (9) which sit substantially below the water. The bow of the monohull (1) is adapted to restrict water flow into the one or more tunnels (2) and to reduce wave slap on the forward roof of the tunnels (2). The entrance of the one or more tunnels (2) at the bow is smaller and nearer water level than the size and height of the tunnel (2) further aft. The tunnel (2) may also have a surface which is shaped to deflect water. The present invention allows the stability of a displacement, semi-displacement or planing craft to be increased without significantly increasing drag, that is the amount of effort needed to push the boat through the water.
