Abstract

The high power discharge lamp (L) is in series with an inductance (I). In parallel with these is a capacitor, (C). It is desirable that such circuits be disconnected from the supply if any of these components becomes faulty or if the continuous lamp current exceeds about 150% of its nominal value. This can be achieved by making the supply through a triac (T) whose conduction depends on signals from detector circuits. These detect the presence of currents in both the main component branches. Only if currents exist, and if that in the lamp is less than the set maximum does the AND gate (ET) operate. A time-delay circuit (CT) is provided for starting purposes. If either its output or that of the AND gate is positive, then the OR gate (OU) maintains conduction of the triac.
