Abstract

The lighter has a tube (1) which contains bi-metal contacts (4). The resistance heating element (10) is carried in the sleeve (9) which is loaded against the lid and is connected to the handle (5). The central pin (12) has a fuse washer carried between insulated washers behind the cup (11). In the event of the lighter overheating, without the bi-metal contacts moving to break the circuit, the fuse will melt and short circuit the resistance element.
