Abstract

The birth warning unit comprises a harness (3) fixed to the rear of the cow and holding a plastics box (4) housing a spring loaded pivoting metal tube (8, 9, 10). This latter is shaped to approach the cow's vagina and its end has a flexible plastics tube (12) which is inserted into the vagina. The end of the plastics tube has a thermostat (13) set to remain open at the cow's body temperature. When expelled by the birth waters, the thermostat closes a circuit (14) and energises a transmitter which provides a signal for a remotely positioned receiver.
