Abstract

The installation is of the type which comprises a still, a condenser, an essence separator and a system of cohobation pipework. Downstream of the essence separator and the cohobation pipework, the install - now comprises a boiler fitted with a heat exchanger. The boiler evaporates mother-water returned from the essence separator and reinjects it into the base of the still. When the installation is to operate at a pressure above atmospheric, a pump is inserted in the circuit between the cohobation pipework and the boiler. The condenser can be used to vaporise mother-water for return to the still via a heat pump. Used for prodn. of essential dil by hydrodistillation of leaves, flowers, plants, seeds, roots, resins, fruits, etc. The boiler eliminates the need for a steam jacket on the base of the still. Mother water is recycled in closed circuit to economise in water and heating costs.
