Abstract

In a process for increasing the density of an anionic ion exchange resin based on a styrene/divinylbenzene copolymer by contacting the resin will bromine, chlorine is simultaneously introduced into the reaction medium to ensure halogenation of the resin by substitution. Anionic resins of density 1.150-1.175 can have their density increased to >1.3 and in some cases >1.35 without their ionic form being altered.
