La présente invention concerne un procédé pour oxyder catalytiquement la méthacroléine en phase vapeur par l'oxygène moléculaire. Ce procédé est caractérisé par le fait que l'on utilise un catalyseur essentiellement constitué de A molybdène, B phosphore, C potassium et/ou césium, D vanadium, E argent et/ou tellure et F oxygène et représenté par la formule :
