Abstract
Catalytic cloth of precious metal or alloy is prepd. by weaving a thread of the metal and the cloth produced is then crushed by any mechanical method which will increase the specific surface of the cloth. The metal is pref. Pt or a Pt alloy used to a catalyse oxidn. of NH3. The Pt (alloy) is pref. aprox. 60 mu thread woven into a cloth with 500-1000 (600-800) openings/cm2. After crushing the cloth thickness measured at the middle of the side of an opening is pref. 20-55 mu (30-45 mu). Used for oxidn. of gases, esp. oxidn. of ammonia to nitric oxide for mfr. of nitric acid. The increased specific surface provides improved yield of catalytic conversion of the gases, with redn. in the amt. of catalyst required.
