Abstract

Used to reline unserviceable building fascades, the system utilises secondary curtain cladding which is offset laterally to form a cavity. A particular application is to cover composite cellular curtain walling which has cracked due to thermal strains and/or settling, new cladding panels being edge clamped to vertical "I" section rails. The rails are rixed to angle irons which are anchored to the existing substructure e.g. floor edges or diaphragm wall ends. A corner detail may mount the rail on a cantilever bracket, the rail having a deep longitudinal web grooves for captive ferrules. The ferrules receive bolts which retain winged 'U'-section panel edge clamps with masking strip and seals the corner return being masked by sheet metal fittings. The new panels may have insulating properties and are mounted to accommodate thermal movements.
