Abstract

The cover of the headlamp of an automobile is moulded from transparent plastics (12) with an outer layer of glass 0.2 to 0.5 mm thick. The plastics moulding is attached directly to the headlamp whilst its front face has an overhanging lip (16) to receive the glass (14). To prevent water or dust penetrating between the glass and plastics surfaces, a flexible sealing (20) is fitted in a groove (22) in the plastic moulding. This combination of plastic and glass is inexpensive to manufacture with the advantage that the glass (14) protects the plastics from abrasion by dust.
