Abstract

An industrial or urban complex has various heat engines at different places operating between different temperature limits. There can be high temperature heat engines driving compressors, low temperature engines driving cooled compressors and similar machines operating below the mean temperature of the whole complex. There may also be turbines working at various temperatures and machines requiring heating jackets. All these machines are connected by a steam main and a hot condense main which operate at the mean temperature of the system. The mains transfer heat between the various stations so as to reduce the total net heat input required by the complex.
