Abstract

A heat exchanger (2) comprises two independent tubular coils (14 and 18) which are thermally connected to each other as by heat conductive fins or plates (22). Heat may be transferred directly between the fluids in the tubular coils, between ambient air and fluids in the tubular coils, or between fluids in the tubular coils with air as an intermediate heat exchange medium. One of the fluids may be the refrigerant of a heat pump circuit and the other water from a hot water storage system. The storage system may include a solar heater.
