Abstract

Cellular concrete is prepd., esp. in situ, by mixing cement and pref. other basic ingredients (e.g. mineral cpds. such as sand, gravels and/or pebbles) with an aq. dispersion, contg. a soluble alkali metal salt, of an incompletely polymerised synthetic resin, a glue of mammiferous animal origin and a natural resin such as rosin. The dispersion is pref. effected in a gaseous aq. emulsion before mixing it with the cement. The dispersion may be added to the cement or vice versa. The process can be carried out in conventional appts. by non specialised labour anywhere suitable or in situ. It allows instantaneous demoulding of the concrete, application of a thermally insulating coating in one pass, construction of large panels which can be heated without swelling of the cellular concrete occurring and pumping of the concrete to heights >20 m. The concrete can also be formed into various shapes by moulding, extrusion spraying etc.. It contains closed cells and has improved thermal and sound insulation properties. Its thermal insulation coefft. is 0.04.
