Abstract

The automatic cooker (1) has a chamber (13), which can be opened on one or two sides and is to receive the meal containers (32). It is fitted with a steam generator (20), arranged in the chamber (13), for generating the steam used for cooking. The steam generator (20) is arranged above the containers in order to prevent contamination by meal constituents. The steam generator is built as a water trough (20) at least partially open at the top and has, for example electrical heating elements (21) projecting into the trough (20). The trough (20) has a level-controlled cold-water connection (23). The temperature of the water in the trough (20) is thermostat-controlled. The heating (21) is controlled by the thermostat (24) and/or a pressure sensor (27) in the chamber (13). At the bottom of the chamber (20), a water spray unit (17) is installed which serves to decrease the pressure in the chamber (13). An overflow (30), which dips into the water of the trough (20), is similar to a lever and can be closed, for example in a controlled manner, serves to accelerate the decrease of pressure in the chamber (13) if the cooked meals permit this. A chamber vent (31) and a condensate outflow (18) are also provided.
