Abstract
A heat exchanger uses the combustion gases of a boiler to pre-heat the combustion air. The heat exchanger consists of a box divided into upper and lower compartments by a horizontal partition. Finned tubes with sealed ends extend from top to bottom of the box and pass through holes in horizontal partition. The tubes contain ammonia which is evaporated by the heat of the boiler gases which pass through the lower part of the box. The ammonia condenses on the upper parts of the tubes, transferring its heat to the combustion air.
