Abstract

The gauge is used for setting reference measurements on a machine tool and comprises a hollow arbor (3) and a taper shank (2). The arbor has a stylus (4) inside, pivoted off-centre (5) to amplify its end movements onto a dial indicating comparator (11). A calibrating bush (9) is placed over the end of the arbor, after mounting into the spindle. The bush contacts a ball (8) on the end of the stylus and the comparator is set to zero. The bush is removed and the ball moved against the part for machine until zero is read.
