Abstract

In the initial stage of pouring, the molten metal flows along a horizontal path into a mould which ismounted on a horizontal pivot just above the surface of the cooling bath, and as pouring proceeds, the mould is swivelled downwards through an angle of approx. 90 degrees so it is completely immersed in the bath and in a vertical position at the end of casting. The swivel motion of the mould is pref. achieved due to the increasing wt. of molten metal and using a controlled speed. In the pref. plant, the metal flows into a distributor mounted on a swivel and fitted with an outlet gutter of pipe which swivels together with the mould. The distributor pref. has two outlet runners used for the alternate filling of two moulds, each of the latter being mounted on a swivel. The cast metal is free of slag and oxide inclusions etc.
