Abstract

The sleeve takes up the tensile forces acting on the joint. It is applied to the joint by explosive compression. The inner surface of the sleeve has a small number of longitudinal channels (2) separated by broad arcuate ridges, so that its cross-section is a circle with protruding lobes. When the sleeve is explosively compressed, grease of dirt on the cables is forced out of the way, into the channels. The ends of the cables inside the sleeve are deformed so that they assume a polygonal cross-section, and thus cannot be pulled out of the sleeve.
