Abstract
Fluid in which suspended particles are contained is passed through a magnetic field to the sepn. of the particles. During passage through the field, a washing fluid is fed in to remove the non-magnetic particles, and then outside the magnetic field a washing fluid is delivered for the removal of the magnetisable particles. The materials to be sepd. are led through a bed of balls of ferromagnetic material, and after leaving the magnetic field, the balls are allowed a free fall over some distance. Used for the sepn. of suspended particles by the passage of the suspension through a magnetic field. Eliminates the problem of conventional processes that magnetisable particles are held by the remanent magnetism of the balls in the bed through which the flow has passed.
