Abstract

A yarn supply device for a multi-feed circular knitting machine may be driven at different speeds as a function of the patterning being produced. Each supply device is associated with an individual cluth means allowing the engagement of any one of the drive pulleys to drive the supply device while the other pulleys remain disengaged. Previously known supply devices have not been capable of 'negative feed' where the yarn is fed solely by the pull of the needles on the yarn. When it is required to change stitch formation, start up a machine, or create Jacquard patterns where the yarn feed changes from one row to the next, it is possible with their invention to disengage the cluth device on the feed to offer a 'negative feed' arragenment.
