Abstract

A drive crown wheel (4), a driven rotor (5), two independent pawls (9a, 9b), a 'C' shaped spring (15) with inwardly hooked ends, and an annular cap (16) are incorporated in a reversible transmission for a ratchet spanner. The spring maintains the pawls against a nominally curved rotor face (7a), the rotor being mounted free to rotate within the wheel. Rotation of the cap effects reversal, one of two ramped faces (12a) engaging and pivoting a pawl. The cap is mounted on the head of the wheel with the ramped faces incorporated on its internal surfaces. Lozenge shaped extensions of the pawls project into the cap and sprung ball (50) catches (39b) maintain the wheel and the rotor in either of their operational relationships.
