Abstract

The inlet end of the kiln is used as a drying zone for the kiln cars carrying stacks of bricks through the kiln and, on an outer transverse wall at the inlet end of the kiln are one or more suction fans drawing air through the drying zone (a) from an air inlet zone (b) fitted with a heat exchanger. The exchanger has cooling ribs and is fed with hot liq. or steam from a boiler. Zone (a) is also fed via ducts with air heated in the kiln and with air from a hot-air generator. Humidity sensors are located in zone (a) and are employed to actuate a valve controlling the hot liq. or steam flowing to the heat exchanger from the boiler. Provides increased thermal efficiency, where atmospheric air available in summer in hot climates can also be used in the drying plant, but this air can be supported by the above sources of hot air when necessary.
